In the House of Commons, Mr. Asquith announced the resignation from the Ministry of Sir John' Simon, Secretary of State for Home Affairs. MINISTERIAL CHANCES. SIR JOHN SIMON'S SUCCESSOR. London, January 4. The "Daily Chronicle" says either Mr. Lewis Harcourt (First Commissioner of Works) or Mr. Herbert Samuel (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster) will replace Sir John Simon as Secretary of State for Home Affairs. SOUTH WALES MINERS. OPPOSED TO CONSCRIPTION. London, January 4. Mr. Winston, president of the South Wales Miners' Union, states that the executive is against conscription, and adds: "If the politicians are not careful they will stop the South Wales coalfields." The Rhondda Valley miners confirmed the executive's decision.
