ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
AN INQUEST. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Sir. E. Arnold, J.P., and a jury of four, an inquest was held in connection with the death of Andrew Reid, 69 years of age, who died in the Wellington Hospital as the result of injuries received in a fall in Upper Willis Street. According to the evidence of Dr. G. B. Isdale, of the Hospital staff, the cause of death was compression and laceration of the brain duo to fracture of the skull. A verdict was returned' accordingly. DROWNING NEAR WHAKATANE. The "New Zealand Herald" reports: The Waihi police were advised on Monday of . the accidental drowning of William Manning, a brother of Mr. Manning, of Waihi, on Sunday, in a stream some nine miles outside Wliakatane. The deceased was in charge of a launch and was employed by the Public Works Department. His parents live at Coromandel. He was 40 years of age. FOUND IN A DITCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Stratford, January 5. An inquest was concluded last night on the body of Francis Uhlenberg, an ; elderly farmer of the Midhirst district, who was last seen on December 23. The body was found in a ditch by the roadside, near Midhirst, on December 28. Lengthy evidence was taken, but no indication was given of the manner of death. A verdict was returned of "Found dead," but there was no evidence to show how death occurred.
