DOMINION LEADERS

VISIT TO LONDON? The.Auckland "Herald 1 says:—"The Eossibility of a visit' being made to ondou by the Prime Minister arid the Minister of Finance now appears remote. Some weeks ago it was generally understood that Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward would leave about the end of 1915 in order to discuss with the Imperial authorities _ various matters relating to the Dominion's share in Imperial affairs. Passages for them were pencilled in the Niagara for the voyage on which slie sailed last week, though it was explained that this was merely a tentative arrangement. "During the last few weeks a new responsibility has been placed upon the Government by the prospective difficulty in maintaining the reinforcements for the Expeditionary Forces. A systematic recruiting scheme is being organised, and the fact that Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward, with Mr. Allen, form the board to Vhich the Government has entrusted the organisation of the scheme, indicates that they have at present no intention of leaving the Dominion. "The adoption of a form of compulsory service in Great Britain will presumably bo followed bv similar measures in the Dominion, ancl with the possibility of so important a change in the public life of the Dominion, it is unlikely that the Prime Minister would care to be absent from the Dominion for several months. If it is considered that there should be some personal communication between representatives of the Imperial and Dominion Governments. means may be found by which it could bo effected .other than by the visit of a New Zealand Minister to London."
