Mr. Cornish, ,chief officer of the ninemoa, having enlisted with the Heinforccments, Captain Jlall, late master of the whaler Hananui, has been appointed chief officer. Mr. Kerridge, third officer of the vessel, has also volunteered for the front. As there is no further use for the Mapourika at present her crew lias been paid off, and the vessel will lay up here indefinitely. •Shortage of wharf labour has been re« sponsible for delaying the discharge of the Waimca's coal cargo. A projected departure from Napier for this port to-nwrrow is the his White Star liner Athcnic. She will fill up here and sail for London on January 10. On Thursday morning, it is hoped to dispatch the Shaw-Savill chartered liner Ocean Monarch from Wellington for London. Having left Napier at 7 a.m. yesterday tho C. and D. liner Nerehana is expected to arrive here early this morning. 'Discharge of her London cargo will be completed at this- port, but up to the present her future movements are uncertain. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that the Defender will .be 'dispatched for Blackball and Hokitika at noon to-day.
