THE MASTERY OF THE ADRIATIC FIGHT BETWEEN A LINER AND A SUBMARINE More losses by submarine attack are reported to-day, but there is news also of a cas in which a merchant ship—the liner City of Marseilles —beat off and damaged the attacking submarine.' There is a continued blaze of fighting in the southern part of the Eastern theatre, ■where the Russians are still assaulting and gaining ground in Bukoivina, in the vicinity of the Rumanian frontier. Further north, towards the Pripot marshes, they have repelled determined counter-attacks pressed by the enemy at heavy cost. Attempts are made by the enemy to minimise the importance of recent battles on this section; of the front, but it is stated that half a million Austrians and Germans are concentrated near the Rumanian frontier. In the Balkans the enemy is said to be now embarking upon an invasion of Albania. There is news also of heavy fighting in the immediate neighbourhood of Cattaro. King Constantine, in further interviews, protests that he is friendly to ' Great Britain, and avows that he will studiously maintain a policy of benevolent neutrality. Minor successes by the Allies are reported on _ the Western front. There is interesting news of the measures being taken in England for the welfare of wounded New Zealand soldiers.
