I A quiet wedding took place at Hast- . ings yesterday morning, when Mr. W. G. . Martin, headmaster of the Napier South School, was married by the Rev. Mr. Waugh to Mrs. Marion M'Lean, late of I Havelock North. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown entertained 75 Boy Scouts, SO Y.M.C.A. boys, and 25 St. Thomas's lads at Titahi Bay on Sunday afternoon last. A Hawks's Bay paper announces the ' engagement of Miss Constance Kersley, late of Napier, and now of Dunedin, to Mr. H. T. Macrae, of Hospital Bill, Napier. In July last, when the Maheno sailed from Wellington, her nursing staff consisted of a matron and nine nurses, all of whom returned on Monday with tho ship, excepting Nurses Burton and Muir who unfortunately developed enterio and are now iu the Auckland Hospital, and Nurses Le Gallais, Hawken, and Cumming who are assisting in the charge of the isolation cases off the Maheno. Nurso Cumming is ono of the four extra nurses added to the staff whilst in Egypt, the remaining three being Nurses M'Lean, Edmiston, and Garrard. A southern paper announces tho engagement of Miss Margaret Talbot, youngest daughter of Mr. George Talbot, "Enfield," Kingsuown, to Mr. S. Grantley Norton, eldest son of Mr. W. H. Norton, Christchurch. And also that of Miss Lilias liruton, of Dunedin, to Mr. Quigley, late of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Mr. Quigloy left recently for Trentham Camp. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson, of Motueka, 'are visiting AVellington at present, aud are staying in Mowbray Street. Mademoiselle Catherine Bedard is spending tho vacation at Ohakime. Yet another'-military.; engagement is that of Mr. Reginald 1 Barber, eldest son of Mr. W. Barber, Foxton, to Miss Winnie M'Hardie, 8.A., of the staff of tho Pahiatua High School, dnughter of lilr. A. M'Ha.rdie, Kelvin Grove. Mr. Barber'goes into camp this month with the 12tli Reinforcements. .Mr. H. Hay lias recently taken the liouso of Lieut. Arthur Rhodes, on the Hadlow Estate, Christchurch. Miss Phoebe Myers, after a short stay in Christchurch, has now gone to Akaroa. . Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hamilton are spending the Christmas holidays in tho south: Mr. ,A. E. Tuckucll, of Hamua, is at present spending a short holiday in Wellington and tho Hutt districts. Mrs. W. E. Cook, who has been visiting hor parents ill Hamua, returns to Trentham shortly. Miss Ettio Rout, tho originator of tho Volunteer Sisterhood, and the secretary of that body, left Christchurch last week en. route for Alexandria. It is understood (says the "Sun") that Miss Rout's mission is connected with the work of the Volunteer Sisterhood in Egypt, and further' developments, on the way of extending the work, may he expected when she reaches Alexandria. ,
