about narrow bowls among rome of the players yesterday. Uno player stated that ho had bumped into several men whose bowls lio was positive would nevei: pass tho drawing test. The best point ho .mado was to tho effect that a Rood deal of fuss was made about testing the bowls, but when there was a tournament on thero wore 110 officials to watch out for; narrow bowls. Ho stated that tho skip who objected to a man's bowls at onco became unpopular and was voted "no sport," so the inevitable happened— bowls wero played and no one protested. There is something in the complaint, and tho Centre officials are reminded of the fact, in view of the big Dominion tournament to be held hero next year, when visiting skips may havo no scruples in asking that tho strict rules of the game as to bowls be adhered to. No skip in the tournament haj won all sis games played, but Iwo have registered six Josses. Perry (Masterton) was going strong for six wins, when he bumped into the Brackenridges on Newtown groen yesterday afternoon,'ami was soundly beaten. His men did not play well during, the first half of the game, but picked up towards the end. whilst the four Brackenridges played with steady accuracy throughout tho game. Another skip who was booming along fell unexpectedly. This was Kerr and his "bush team," as tho Eketahuna rink is jokingly called. Kerr is an old Newtown and Thorndon player, and 110 end of a good skip. He was defeated bv Palmer (Hutt) yesterday. The Hutt Club, by the way, is not doing nearly as well as it should. Warwick (Newtown) received his third beating yesterday afternoon at Newtown, from Martin, of Hataitai. The score was 20—18 in favour of_ Newtown 011 tho twentieth head. On the last head Martin's iuen got in three shots, only one of which Warwick managed to displace. In the play-off Hataitai bowls swarmed round the jack, and registered four shots when all bowls had been played. It was no surprise to anyone to learn that one of the longest games in the tournament was played between the Wellington Club's skips, Webb and Churchward, yesterday afternoon on tho Wellington green. The game ended in favour of Churchward. M'Kittrick (Hataitai) registered Ms first win yesterday—against. Wearne too! One of the sportiest skips in the tournament is Campbell (Lyall Bay). He is not particularly well sup'ported, and has to force things at times. He was having some good fun in the game with Hill | (Wellington) yesterday afternoon, and got I cramp ■with driving. After one. furious drive in which he missed everything, one of the players shouted in ecstasy: "You I ought to drive a hearse!" Dinnie (ICelburn) is , the only player with five wins in Section C. Jackman (Wellington) nearly laughed when lie got a seven on to Hogben (Thorndon) yesterday afternoon, but he remembered in time. Hogben never stuiled either. n I
