MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Major H. F. Davis, J.P., was 011 tho bench at yesterday's sittings of the Magistrate's Court, and dealt with over twenty, different- cases. persons appeared on ordinary charges of insobriety, and ten of these were first offenders, and were treated accordingly. William Boylo Greenaway and John Hyde, who appeared in uniform, were convicted of insobriety, and ordered to be handed over to tile military authori-' ties. Ernest Cox, Joseph Georgeson, Martin Joyce, and Patrick Butler, all of whom had convictions for drunkenness within the past six months, were fined small amounts, with the option of 24 hours' imprisonment. Horace Graham Butter, who appeared on remand on a charge of helpless drunkenness, was further remanded until this morning. A soldior, named Henry Edgar Adamson, was charged with being found in a state of helpless drunkenness. On the application of Sub-Inspector Mackinnon, tho accused was remanded for a week for medical treatment in, gaol. Robert M'Farlano was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, while for assaulting Coiistahle Richards he was fined £1, the alternative being seven days' imprisonment. George Murray, who had been arrested on a charge of breach of a prohibition order, was remanded until tomorrow. James Kane admitted having been found without, lawful excuse on premies in Frederick Street, but explained that he had been drinking and was not aware of his position. There was no previous record against him. and he was convicted and discharged. John Price, who made use of some very objectionable language ill a public street while under the influence of liquor, was fined £u, in default to undergo a month's imprisonment. A Chinaman, named Ah You, was charged with being found in possession of 11 tins of opium in a form suitable for smoking. On the application of the Collector of Customs, he was remanded until this morning
