MAGISTRATE'S COURT

1 A short sitting of tho Magistrate's Court was held oil New Year's Day. Mr. J. Godber, J.P., was on tlio bench. For insobriety, Helena Frazer was convicted and discharged; William Whiteside was fined £1, Joseph Cotter os., Thomas Blake es., Neil Lamont 10s., ond Margaret Williams ss. Peter Chalmers was fined £2 lor having used obscene language in Willis Street, and for insobriety and resisting the police bo was convicted and discharged. Hugh Graves was sent to prison for seven days for the theft of a coat belonging to William Gray. The theft was committed aboard the Mapourika, on which vessel Graves was travelling without having paid a fare. May Ryan was scntoueed to a month's imprisonment for having insufficient lawful means of support.
