Williams's gift . of £2000 saw tlio result accomplished. 'I ho public, both town ami country, responded magnificently on Friday, and from early morning to eleven o'clock at niglifc, telephone, telegram, and post brought gifts and promises, whilst a constant stream of gifts was handed in at the office. Lata in the afternoon £200 from Messrs. Wilson Bros., Bulls, and £100 from Mrs. P. M'Laren, Masterton, assured the success of the effort, and by seven o'clock on Christmas Eve Mr. W. Allan, president, was able to assure Airs. Williams that her splendid contribution had achieved the desired result. The Board of Directors are under a deep debt of gratitude to the public for so splendidly coming to the anno of the local association, which will now he in a better position than .ever to eono with its work among the soldiers in this and in other lands. A few Chinese residents of the City subscribed £12 14s. od., in appreciation of the work done by the Y.AI.C.A. for their countrymen in China, and many gifts were forwarded as an appreciation of the association's world-wide efforts to serve the soldiers of the Empire.
