H.M.S. NATAL SUNK AT HER MOORINGS
ABOUT THREE HUNDRED LIVES LOST By Telegraph—Frees Aat'ociiilkta-Oopyrifht (Rec. January 1, 9.25 p.m.) London, December 31. The Admiralty announces that the cruiser Natal sank yesterday in harbour as the result of an internal explosion. There are four hundred survivors. [H.M.S. Natal was built in 1905, and was an armoured cruiser displacing 13,350 tons,.her sister ships being the Achilles, Cochrane, and Warrior.' Her armament consisted of six 9.2 in., four 7. Sin., and 24 smaller guns. She had three torpedo tubes submerged. Hor complement was 704.] (Rec. It includes fourteen officers, but does not include the captain or the commander. The newspapers opine that about three hundred men were lost.
