THE NEED URGENT DEFENCE MINISTER'S VIEW. . The Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. Allen, yesterday told a Dominion reporter that it was inperative that men Should come forward now for the Eleventh' draft, and early, in January for the 12th Reinforcements. The shortage at the present time is in .the■infantry section. So far every recruiting medium has been utilised, and the Defenoe'Department feel that it is still possible for the required number of recruits to be obtained without recourse to the Government's new scheme of recruiting. ' The Minister of Defence desires' it to be distinctly understood that the quot-a for the 11th and 12tli Reinforcements must he obtained under the old system, and the Minister is confident that thero will be no shortage. SOLDIERS' ROOM The Soldiers' Room in Sydney- Street has been the rallying point for an unusually large number of the men' from the camps during the past week, and arrangements for the comfort of the men during the New Year holidays have now been made by Mrs. Firth and party. To-day there will be a light lunch and cup of tea available throughout the day, and supper in the evening. A ; bright concert programme 'has also been arranged for to-night, and floor space is being reserved for dancing. On New Year's Day and also on Sunday there will be a lunch, in addition to the tea and supper. The president (Mrs. Massey) and the committee,. who have spared no effort to ■ make the room attractive, again extend a very cordial invitation to all soldiers in camp, and to all returned soldiers, to join the New Year's party at the Soldiers' Room. Before a recruit Roes into camp it is tho custom for his friends to make him a presentation. Mr. A. 13. Rowland states that ho is prepared to give a special rebate of 15 per cent. (3s. in the £) off all soldier's .requisites, such as wrist-, let watches, binoculars, etc.—Advt.
