The contents of the buildings were insured for £25,000, including £6000 in tho New Zealand Insurance Company, £3000 in the Standard Insurance Company ot New Zealand,' and £3400 in the National Insurance Company of New Zealand. Private Thorgood, who was invalided homo, deaf and dumb, was* attacked by a tigersnake when at a picnic. He killed tho snake, and the excitement of tho encounter restored his voice and hearing.
