j SERIOUS INFANTRY .SHORTAGE. The 11th Reinforcements, who should have reached camp at full strength two weeks ago, are still very short of their complement. The military authorities stated yesterday that the shortage was about 400- The men wanted are required for the infantry arm of the service. It is clear that the present position cannot continue long without causing grave anxiety. City Enrolments. In Wellington City rccruiting has been slack during tho holidays. The following fit men have been enrolled; — • Walter M'Farlane, butcher, Ci'ty (Mounted). Percy E. Speers, engineer, City (Mounted). Thos. Richard Stevens, farm labourer, City (Infantry) John Rini, miner, Nelson (Infantry). Neil Howell, bushinan, City (Artillery). / Daniel Casey, blacksmith, City (infantry). John S. M'Kay, bushman, Island Bay (Infantry). _ • William Tierney, miner, Greymouth (Infantry). Fred R. L. Humphrey, electrician, City (Mounted). Thos. E. Costin, seaman, Newtown (Lifantry). Alexander K. Murray, clerk, City (Infantry N.C.0.) Arthur C. Jones, clerk, City (Infantry N.C.0.). George Armstrong, labourer, City (Infantry N.C.0.). Commissions for N.C.O.'s. At Tauherenikau the following N.C.O.'s have been appointed Second lieutenants on probation, and have been transferred to the lltli Reinforcements: Sergt.-Major W. P. Bell, A Squadron, 9th Reinforcements; Sergt. A. G. 11. Crawford, B Squadron, Utli Reinforcements; Sergt. 1 1 . M. Preston, D Squadron, 9th Reinforcements. recruit goes into camp,it is the custom for his friends to make him a presentation. _ Mr. A. E. M. Rowland states that he is preparod to give a special rebate of 13 per cent. (3s. in the X) off all soldier's requisites, such as wristlet watches, binoculars, ctc.—Advt.
