The Ville de la CJiotat was returning from the Far East, apd was torpedoed in tho Eastern Mediterranean without warning. The steamer* Mcrol landed the survivors at Malta. ' s . CRAVELY COMPROMISING. Washington, December 27. The American Consul at Port Said has telegraphed the State Department that the Japanese liner Yasafea Maru was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean by an unknown submarine. The liner did not attempt to escape. The State Department regards the incident as being as gravely compromising as the Ancona case.
