CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS AND THE SOLDIERS.
Sir, —Columns have been written in the Press ro Town Hall treat to the young soldiers who are going to fight for King, country, and homo. Other things, however, might bo done. It is perhaps the first visit of very many of the boys to Wellington. Their uniform should entitle thorn to a free ride on the trams to the Zoo, where free catalogues could bo given to all <vho visited the ground. The Public Library should bo open to them afternoon and evening. The Art Gallery also should bo open morning and afternoon, and the Museum at Newtown. The entertainment would be a delight for ever for some and most instructive to all. Then the compulsion to stroll listlessly along the streets and frequent, hotel bars .would be grontlv minimised at a paltry cost. John Bull junketing i-. not all a soldier seeks —particularly in a city or town first visited.—l am, otc., VIATOR, December 27.
