' PATRIOTIC TOURNAMENT. 'A Patriotic Tournament, arranged by some of the members of the Management Committee of tlie Wellington Lawn Tennis Association was commenced on tlie JMiiticipal courts at Day's Bay ou Saturday afternoon. No trophies are attached to. tlie events, and tiie ivhole of tho entrance fees will therefore be available'for the patriotic funds. Five championships and five handicap events are on the programme, and, as satisfactory entries were received, those responsible for tlie tournament should have reason to be pleased with their' effort. As a great many games have to be decided to-day, it is intended to start play at an early hour. '.Saturday's, results are as under: — Men's Championship Singles.—Ballantyne defeated Brodrick, 6—2, 6—o; Lind defeated Buddie, 6—2, 6—4; W. Irons defeated Foord, 6 —2, 6 —3; Lees defeated N. Irons, 6—o/6 —2; Hyams defeated Saunders, 6—o, d—o. : Ladies' ■■ Championship Singles.—Miss Pliminer defeated Miss Caverhill, 9 —3. Men's Handicap Singles.—G. Ballantyne (18) defeated Henderson (2), 60— 51; Foord (24) defeated Nicholson (18), 60—52; Leicester (12) defeated Simpson (14), 60—53; Hyams (22) defeated Wilkinson (14), 60—52; Dawson (22) defeated Welch (20), 60—57. Ladies' Handicap Singles.—Miss Bennett (22) defeated' Miss Naughton (8), 50—33; Miss Brasell (22). won from Miss Davis (scr.) by default. Ladies' Handicap Doubles. —Misses Bemiett and C. Stevens (owe 10) defeated Mrs. Norris and Miss M'Donn/Ii (20), 60—45. Combined Handicap Doubles.—Miss J. Stevens and Foord'(18) defeated Miss Bennett and Hackivorf.h (26), 60 —50.
