Sir, —In view of the recent fatal accident at the- Pctone railway station, might I be permitted to make, a suggestion to tlie Railway Department which has struck" a great number of people to m yknowleclge. That is: the B-ailway Department should immediately acquire those cottages on the west side of the station right up to the bridge. Tho land there is - essentially for railway purposes, and private owners are not wanted over the line, and their absence would minimise the accidents at the station. Another suggestion to lessen these level crossings: Why are the "Stop—look Out for the Engine" boards still placed right uj the lines. 'This was the right position in the old bullock-wagon days, but to-day.-these notices shoulc be at least thirty yards from the crossing. Our highly-paid General Manager or . his sub-managers might dt worse than 'adopt these suggestions — 11 am, etc., I A PETONE ESCAPEE.
