TERROR AT HAMBURG
RUMOUR OF AN ALLIED AIR RAID Bjr-Teleeraph—Frees Association—Oopyiitfii Amsterdam, December 23. A sensation was caused at Hamburg : by a rumour that an Allied air fleet was about to arrive. Tho fright of tho : publio was so great that General Eoell issued a long, series of orders to.' the .! eflect that when ten gunshots were fired the trams and trains should be stopped ; and emptied, and the people 'should go '; homo by tho shortest routes. All lighta j woro to be extinguished' and especial ■; protective measures would be taken at the harbour. When the peril was over,' tho pub j lie criers would parade the streets with' trumpets and drums and give the necessary instructions. The raid did not occur, but the people of Hamburg continue panic-stricken, and are afraid to go out after sunset.
