' London, December 23. ,At Suvla the floods early' in December drowned some men in! the trenches. A soldier.writes that it rained in torrents' at* the end ;of November. -The ; thunder and . lightning were ; terrible. . .The trenches were like rivers, the water , being waist high,-and the fields a vast lake. Blankets even and equipments wore ; washed 1 away. There was snow ' in the night-time. He had to stay for forty-eight hours in the water, unable to lie down: ■ Another soldier writes: "Some of the men were saved by diving through the water, others 1 climbed trees. We marched for five miles up to our waists in mud and water. Tne chaps were dropping, in the slush, and were > too weak to rise. Many had frostbitten feet." ■■ ■ .: f . THAT DELAYED REPORT . NOT.
