SOLDIERS AT CHRISTMAS.
Sir,—May I, through the medium 'of . your newspaper, add my -voice to that of j your correspondent of a few days ago j who made an appeal to the public on ( behalf of our soldiers at tin's festive sea- , soii. It would be well if the kindness of our citizens could .find some other j way of entertaining this glorious joung manhood of our country than by shout- r ing them indiscriminately in hotels. We j are justly proud of-our voluntary army, , the members of which are prepared to j make the supreme sacrifice for the sake ( i>f honour and''justice, and for the safe- f ty of this distant part of His Majesty's Dominions. Can they not be allowed to c walk, our streets- with erect and scl- j dierly bearing, with clear, boyish eyes, -t and exhibit only the _ innocent morri- j ment properly associated with the j Christmas season? We shall all try to ] make them happy, but let it be in aaiie j and wholesome ways. I ani convinced j that many friends of the soldiers only < need to have this.danger pointed-oi;; to j them to respond to the warning whole- ( heartcdly and cheerfully.—l am, etc., ] ANNE G. SALMOND. < Eotorua, December 21, 1915. j
