WANTED—BINOCULARS

—:— 'APPEAL TO SPORTING MEN. A man can, see more and see.it iarther away .with field glasses than w> h the naked eye, wherefore it is claimed by 'soldiers of standing, who ought to know,, that the possession of lieid glasses increases the fighting efficiency of . an officer or non-commissioned 1 Hi oei manifold. One estimate has t that the active service valuo of six or serial pairs of field glasses is equal '0 t'at of one maohine-gun. It is urged that not only should our officers, but ocr non-commissioned officers be provided with these aids to vision. ' It is impossible now to purchase in this country the glasses' required for this purpose, and as the demand everywhere exceeds the supply, it is impossible'to procure glasses abroad. An appeal is therefore being made to.owners of binoculars, who are sporting men for the most jiart, to give up their alasßes for more important service. The appeal will be made- especially during the holiday season, and it is hoped that racing men, will respond willingly and liberally, and give their cherished glasses to be used by soldiers in > the serious business of war. A similar appeal for gifts of binoculars 'was made in England by the veteran British General, Lord Roberts.
