' Dunedfn, December 22. The first wool of the sea-son was held today, wh-ou 17,31)ti biiiios were submitted, compared with 15,597 last year. There was a good attendance of buyers, including representatives America, Prance, England, the local woollen mills, and speculators. There was strong American and French competition for super wools, and the local mills had to pay extreme prices for their requirements, while Bradford buyers were eager for topmaking wools. The condition of the good wools was distinctly better than last year, but many Northern and Otago Central lots bore ovidence of a dry season, being earthy, wasty, and badly grown. Super halfbreds were largely taken by Dominion mille and the Continent, while America and Bradford sought crossbreds. There was a. keen demand, and high prices ruled for pieces.
