James Allen stated that figures in his possession showed that the trade between New Zealand and Samoa was not increasing as it ought. It was suggested that New Zealand merchants who wished to obtain the Samoan trade should send travollers round tho Islands, and that, should a firm not feel disposed to face the expense of sending a representative round for itself alone it should combine with several other firms in sending a representative, thus dividing the cost. Speaking with reference to the matter, Mr. E. Anderson, chairman of tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce, stated that New Zealand merchants were not showing the same onterpriso as Australian merchants.
