EGYPT TRANQUIL
POSITION SATISFACTORY INDUSTRIAL SITUATION IMPROVINC. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) (Rec. Deoemher 21, 5.5 p.m.) London, December 20. "The Times" Cairo correspondent savs: "Egypt has overcome the political, military, and economic crisis of the past year, and the position now is eminently satisfactory from every viewpoint. "The almost frantic Turco-German efforts to foster disturbances have proved entirely abortive, -while the relations of tho Anglo-Egyptian authorities aro liar■nionious. Tho reports that fresh Turkish attacks are pending are not affecting the general masses. "Lord Kitchener read them aright when lie decided to make the -welfare of the Fellahin tlie keynote of his policy; his reward is the present extraordinary peaceful condition of the country. "Tho Sultau evinces tho greatest interest in tho welfare of his subjects, and is cordially seconding the efforts of the British authorities.
"Tho majority ■of the population has generously contributed to the various War .Funds, while the economic and industrial position is good and steadily improving. "The keynotes of our policy in Egypt must be to keep a firm hand on undesirables and exhibit a solicitude for the well-being of the agriculturists, who embrace the whole of the lower classes."
