EVACUATION OF ANZAC AND SUVLA BAY

—4 A WONDERFUL FEAT TURKS IGNORANT. OF THE MOVE TRANSFER EFFECTED WITHOUT LOSS OF LIFE OTHER POSITIONS TO BE HELD ACTIVITY IN FLANDERS AND FRANCE It is officially announced to-day that the British troops in the western zone of the Gallipoli Peninsula—including, the Australians and i Now Zealanders at Anzac—have been transferred to another sphere of operations. Extraordinary perfection of military and naval.organisation has been discovered in the withdrawal, with only slight casualties, of a great army in closo contact with the enemy. The guns and other material of the army were successfully removed as well as its personnel. Glowing tributes a-re paid to the great part played by the Australians and Now Zealanders in the Gallipoli campaign, but coupled with 'regret at the fact that no crowning victory has been achieved there is a general recognition that the withdrawal is a wiso step which paves the way for more effective action by the Allies in the Near East. The short front held by the Allies near the southern end of the Gallipoli Peninsula is being retained. Speculation reigns ■ as to the destination of the troops withdrawn from the western zono, but official information on the subject is meantime withheld.
