The Government Statistician estimates .the wheat crop at 1,724,016 acres as producing 23,190,521 bushels, an increase of 9,859.171 over tlie previous record; oats,- 103,198 acres, 1,786,454 bushels; barley, 11,089 acres, 216,818 bushels. A committee has been set ui> by the farmers of Masterton to consider the question oT providing a weighbridge for the district. . • Harvesting and haymaking operations are now general in the Masterton 'district. The crops are, on the whole, heavier than usual. At a meeting of Masterton farmers on Saturday afternoon the arrangements made by the millowners in regard to the rates for cutting hay and chalf were discussed. Hitherto, the charge has been made by the ton, but this year the millowners have decided to charge by the' bag and the bale. It was eventually resolved that the new arrangements of the millowners be given a trial. .. The .New Zealand Shearers' Association has now. become merged with the various organisations of rural workers and has changed its name to the A.P.U. (Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union)..
