Whyte, of tho Wellington Racing Club, is empowered to accept entries for these events "up till i p.m. on that date. The.ex-New Zealander, V. O'Neill, has been granted ■ a trainer's license by the Victorian Kacing Club. The New Zealand-bred El Bro (Soulfc— Momi) won three races at ihe recent Ballarat meeting. He is owned by Mr. F. J. Mitchell, who also won tho Cup with Hassadene, and incidentally more thai half the stako money. : . Evidently the New Zealander, J. N. M'Gregor, is enthusiastic about the war, as the. cablegrams announce that he has enlisted.. He will have a hard task to pass the medical authorities, for there is hardly a bone & his body that liaß not been broken on numerous occasions, and added ;to this he has been a cripple for years. Amongst the- winners at Ascot (Vic.) on December 6 was the aged Merrie England gelding Merry Goer, who started at an outside price and succeeded in winning the First Division Handicap. ( There is do denying : the fact that our. leading jockeys - lead anything but a life of leisure. Several of them, including Deeley, Oliver, Emerson, and the two Heeds, will be riding at Auckland onMonday next; the same evening they will entrain /or Awapimi> and after travelling all sight they will ride at the Manawatu meeting, on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving tho samo evening for Auckland, where they will Again be in the saddle on Thursday. The New York Jockey Club has offered a piece of plate to be competed for at the National Horse Show. It is to be given for tho best troop horse in tho show to bo judged for soundness, weight-carrying ability up to nearly 18st, and general suitability for tho work. This prize has been donated by. the Jockey Club with the object of drawing attention, to a type of horso now in groat demand for army purposes in America and Europe.' ■ Up-to-date train arrangements have been made for the 'convenience of patrons of tho Manawatu' Cup Meeting, which opens at Awapuni on Monday.' The first excursion train will leave Thorndon at 7.10 a.m., and in addition the New Plymouth relief mail at 7.45 a.m., the ordinary mail at 8.20 a.m., and the Napior mail at 9.10 a.m. will all stop at Awapuni.
