A MILITARY CHRISTMAS

— c— SIGHTS FOR THE FESTIVE WEEK. As. time advances interest in the man who is going to fight for his country appears to be increasing. None of the men who were in camp last Christmas had anything to complain of as to the manner in which thay were treated, but there is an especially good time due to the men in camp this week. On Thursday next no fewer than 6000 men are to he feasted—it will be 110 ordinary meal—at Trentham by the Mayoress and her .rapidly-accumulating army of la<ly assistants. Gifts of cake, small goods, puddings, etc., as well as donations of money have- been coming in liberally during tho past fow days from'near and far, and those men who refrain from going iato camp until after Christmas are going to miss a- unique experience, apart from the .more material advantages' that will ho gained by all sturdy trenchermen. And again on Saturday next (Christmas Day) a banquet is lioing provided at the I'oivn Hail for all those in town on leave from tlie various camps. On behalf of the City, and with assistance from other centres, the Mayor and Mayoress are to provide a spread at midday that all participants will remember for many a long day, and then at 5.30 p.m., all men in uniform may drop in for tea if they have no more pressing engagement®. "My idea," said Mr. J. P. Luke, in chatting over the Christmas Day arrangements, "is to make the Town Hall a homo for a day for all thoso men in camp' who may not have their people or personal friends in Wellington, and who cannot find time to spend tho Christmas at their own' homes. Wo do not know how many of these there will bo, but whatever the number may be wo will see that there is full and plenty for, all!"
