Cable advice received by Mr. P.. M'Coll, superintending engineer at the municipal power and lighting station, states' that his son, Lieut. A. B. M'Coll, Wellington Infantry,' who left Now Zealand with the Main Body of the . Expeditionary Force, Las been promoted captain. Captain M'Coll stated that he was enjoying excellent health.

The Rev. F. Stubbs,- F.R.G.S., left Wellington last night by the Paloona., He is travelling through ■ both Islands in order that ho may note tho various changes and A improvements that hava taken place during recent years. In March lie hopes to start for a series of visits in tho Far East.

The friends of Mr. Gerald Lyon will bo'interested to learn that, he has t«-. ceived promotion at, tho front to . the rank of temporary second lieutenant. Lieutenant Lyon left here - with tho Main Body as a gunner in the 3rd Battery N.Z.F.A., was N.C.O. in Egypt, and. now that lie has received a commission, has boon posted to No. I Battery. Landing on tlio fifth day after the firet landing .at Anzac, Lieutenant Lyon has been continuously on Gallipoli Peninsula, and in spite of many narrow escapes has como scathlesa through tlio ordeal.

: Dr. Jessie Scott, lJitely of Auckland, now in the Balkan hubbub, performing tuedical service in Serbia, wrote after iier 'departure for that distressful country, resigning tho position she had held lis one of the staff of honorary anaesthetists to the Auckland Hospital. The Hospital Board decided to ask Dr. Scott to reconsider her resignation, and -granted 'her leave of absence instead; and this week the board received a note all the way from Serbia in which Dr. Scott' thanked them for their consideration in tho matter, and withdrew her resignation, accepting' the leave of absence granted. . - ,

The Auckland Education Board has appointed Mr. Richard P. Connell, M.A., Instructor in Agriculture. Mr. Connell is-a graduate of Otago University, and has had - seven years' teaching experience, including, over two years as secondary assistant in the Tomuka District High School, where special attention was devoted to • agricultural education.. Mr. Council is.at present assistant instructor' in agriculture .in the North Canterbury Education District. He will take up bis duties in Auckland on February 1, 1916.
