Tho art union in connection with the Auckland Cup; organised by the Provincial Licensed Victuallers' Association in support of their Queen Carnival candidate, has been drawn. O'Connor, Taumarimui; Jack Delaval, D, Lindsay, Temuka; Blackall, Rainger and Donald; AVarstep, J. Pratt, To Kuiti; Colonel Soult, G. Stanton, Avondale,; ; • Mullingar,.. Mrs. Jeauneaux,' Remuera; Lady Pennryj' J. M'Gregor, -Railway Hotel, Hokitika; Self, Joe Greenwood, Eden Terrace; Balboa, T. Grubb,'Stratford; St. Elm, "Chitritus," Auckland. In the early 'sixties cigarettes wore only smoked (in England) by foreigners or Britons who had acquirbd tho habit while residing abroad. The first English, cigarettes were stained brown, to imitate tho tobacco-leaf, and wore not gummed.
