DISTRICT ORDERS : PROMOTION OF OFFICERS. 'An order issued. by Colonel Tate, Commanding ,th'o"-'Wellington Military District, runs: —"It has been noticed that recommendations for promotion of officers subsequent to'-passing aualifying examinations have, in many cases, been delayed . for ~some considerable ' tiirife, with, tlo' result that deserving officers have; not- been ' given their step when This has led to somo inconvenient.'arid, at times to a certain amount" of '.'injustice, particularly in the ".case,-of;, officers enlisting with the Expeditionary Force. For example, cases have arisen whore two officers have qualified for, promotion at the same time, in which one has been advanced to higher rank, entitling him to enter camp senior to the other whose recommendation was not forwarded, although a vacancy existed. It'is recognised tliat officers sihould loqk after their own interests in this respect in the event of promotion' being overlooked, yet it appears that even when local officers have been reminded, unnecessary • delay has followed. This is particularly so -as ,regards officers on the Unattached List (b), who havo, comploted two years' service, and have qualified for promotion." Doctors and Invalided Soldiers.
