SCHOOL TENNIS
TOURNAMENT FINALS. The filial games of the Wellington Public Schools Tennis Tourney were played at tho Brougham Hill tennis courts in glorious weather yesterday afternoon. The tourney in the last few years lias assumed rather surprising proportions, this year there being somewhere in the vicinity of 500 .entries. Yesterday's games were in nearly all eases very keenly • contested, some of the young players, exhibiting very marked ability with the racquet. Tliero were quite a number of "people, present during the afternoon, including the Mayor, Mr. J. P.' Luke, who 'afterwards presented the prizes, Mr. .T. A. B. Howe, general referee. Mr. C. H. Haslaui,. president of the Wellington Public Schools' Tennis Association, Mr. Murray Kean, secretary of the association, Mr. W. T. Grundy, and Mr. J. H. Worboys. The management committee were as follows:—Miss Williams, Miss Robinsbn, Miss Ross, and' Mr. J. H. Worboys, and Mr. Mellodie,. secretary. The secondary ciip was carried ofF by Petone District High Sdhool, while Clyde Quay School annexed the primary cup. The games resulted as follow;— Semi-finals. • Girls' Singles.—K. Gilling (C.Q.) beat G. Campbell (C.Q.), 30—21; V. Lapworth (C.Q.) beat B. Clarke (T.R.0.), 30-29. . Combined Doubles—Herd and R. AVarren (N.) beat Go'idie and K. Girling (C.Q.), 30-2-1; Wyatt and G. Campbell (C.Q.) beat Brown and IC. Lucena -(Tor.), i 30-25. ] Girls' Doubles.—K. Gilling and G. Campbell (C.Q.) beat A. Jorgensen and V. Lamberg (K.), 30—12; D. Lock and V. Lapworth (C.Q.) beat V. Anderson and H. Lapworth (C.Q.), 30—27. Final's. Boys' Singles.—F. Brown (Ter.) beat A. Herd (N.J, 30—20. (Trophy, a tennis rae.quet.) ■ Boys' Doubles.—Herd and Brien (Nor.) beat Thoiuas and Jones (S.W.). ' Girls' Singles.—K. Gilling (C.Q.) beat V., Lapworth (C.Q.), 30—20, (Trophy, a tennis racquet'.) Girls' Doublei—K. Gilling and G. Campbell (C.Q.) beat D. .Lock and V. Lapworth (C.Q.), 30—28. Combined Doubles;—Wyatt and G. Campbell (C.Q.) beat Herd and R. Warren (N.), 30—21. (Trophies, a tennis racquet and a Is. trophy.) Prizes were donated by the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. Alcock and Co., and Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co. i . 0» Wednesday at 2 o'clock Mr. G. A. Fairbrother -will sell on account of tho trustee in the estate of William Parkei (deceased), a freehold farm of. 63 acres at Belvedere, with a six-roomed* house and other buildings.' There is also'a, nice pieco of native biish." This land is all flat, and is well roaded. On tho same day he will offer 220 acres in Carrington Estate under renewable lease, with cottage and outbuildings. This property is nearly all flat, is', watered, and fronts a good road; 55 acres are down in oats, wheat, and rape crops. Both these properties, lio close to the hills and get the benefit of the summer rains.
