. • Q THOUSANDS OF DEATHS FROM AN EPIDEMIC. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.') Auckland, December 13. The steamer Southern Cross, from Norfolk Island, reports a severe opidcmic of dysentery at the Solomon Islands and Santa Cruz. At tlio latter placo three thousand natives died, and many others were in a bad condition. At the Solomons tho disease was not so marked. Four hundred natives died at Vila. s . Two men landed at the New Hebrides from tho Frerich steamer Pi Vanchi, and reported that the vessel had lost a propeller on the voyage to the New Hebrides," and thero were twelve men aboard. The Government steamer searched for four days unsuccessfully. At Reef Islands it was reported that one of tho deacons had been murdered, but the crew from the Southern Cross found him on a reof, exhausted, but not seriously injured, and returned him to the island.
