MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
. The monthly meeting of the Makara' County Council was held yesterday. There were present: Councillors J. Monaghan (in the chair), J. H. Hegaity, .A. ,T W Taylor, J. Pyle, L. Bryant, and G„ Monk. Several -reports ,wei* received regard* ing the work that has been done- to re* pair the damage caused by the Tecentj storm. " There was some discussion regarding the carting away of. shingle from Bun* around, Ohiro Bay. The chairman ie* ported that he; had inspected the road reserve there,,and. bethought .that thing should'.bß'aone to''preverit*.sEingls being carted away ,at this.'point, from below'high water mark. The town clerk stated that he had corns' munioated with the Marine Department, and had teceive'd-'a reply to the effect that the cartage. of shingle was prohibit* ed from. this point twelve months ago. The council was asked to supply tie: names of offenders,-with a view to action j being taken. '. It was said that the road was being .seriously damaged by this practice, ana finally the matter was left in the handj of the chairman.
