MASTERTON NOTES
In a shield 1 match played on the Masterton bowling green on Thursday, the Masterton Bowling Club defeated Carterton by two' points in the aggregate, after a keenly-contested game. ' . The managers of the Masterton Technical School have expressed themselves unanimously in sympathy with" the proposals of the Hon. A. L. Herdman to provide manual and technical training for disabled soldiers. Already two returned soldiers are studying shorthand and typewriting at the local Technical School. Haymaking operations are in full Swing in the Masterton district, and the harvesting of cereal crops has been commenced. Tho oat crop is particularly heavy. Nine applications have been reoeived for the position' of home science instructress to tho Masterton Technical School. Four of the applicants hold particularly high qualifications. ■ The managers' will hold a special meeting on Wednesday , evening next to make an appointment. There has been a notable fallinp-oif in recruiting in tho Wairarapa' durino the past week. . A dance recital was given in the Masterton Town Hall on Thursday evening by the pupils of Mrs. Kendall, in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. There was a large. attendance, and a substantial sum has been added to the fund. ■ < '. . I
