COMPENSATION COURT
VALUE OF NEWTOWN SECTIONS. Judgment of the Compensation Court was delivered yesterday on a claim for J315G0 compeusdtion, brought under tho Public Works Act, 1908. The Court was composed of His Honour Mr. Justico Chapman and Messrs. W. M. Hannay (plaintiff's assessor), and A. L. Wilson (respondent's assessor). The plaintiff was Donald M'Lean. contractor, and the respondents the Wellington City Corporation. The claim was for compensation for three sections of land taken from the plaintiff by tlie respondent body, for tramway purposes. The sections comprised 1- rood. 10.7 'perches, adjoining Newtown Park, at, the Zoo entrance from Daniel Street. ,Mr. A. (tray. ICC., with Mr. H. Buddie, appeared in support of tho claim, and the City Solicitor (Mr. J. O'Shea) appeared for tho corporation. Evidence had been heard on Wednesday and yesterday morning, His Honour announced that the Court had decided to award the claimant JBI2OO. This amount had been arrived at after due consideration of all the matters argued at tho hearing. His Honour' fixed the amount to be paid to each assessor (by the party employing him) at 12 guineas.
