CARGO BY THE ASHBURTON. The closing of the Panama Canal until the end of the year on account of the big landslides in the Culebra. Cut has caused considerable inconvenience to the Kcw Zealand Shipping Company, in that the chartered steamer Ashhurton was loaded at Montreal with the idea that she would go via Panama, first to New Zealand, and then to Australia. The day before she sailed. October 7, came' the news of the ■ blocking of the canal, and the vessel was to proceed by the old route via the Cane of Good Hope. Owing to the manner in which her cargo is stowed, the Ashburton will hove to stenm to New Zealand first and back to Australia, which will entail considerably more expense than if the cargo had originally been stowed, for a voyage via the Cape.
