A PRESENTATION

MR. JAMES MACKENZIE HONOURED. A representative gathering of past and present i. officers of the Lands and Survey Department was held yesterday afternoon m the Parliamentary Buildings, when the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, on behalf of the staff of the De? partment, presented Mr. James Mackenzie, the late Under-Secretary, with a handsome roll-top desk, office chair and fittings, together with a beautiful silver tea-set and other silver plate, as a memento of his association with

the Department and his long service therein.

Mr. T. N, Brodrick, the present Under-Secretary, filled the chair, and explained the reason of the gathering, which was to testify to the esteem in

which Mr. Mackenzie was held by all officers, and called upon Mr. Masse.y, a? Minister of Lands, to make the presentation.

Mr. Masse.y, in a- felicitous speech, detailed the recipient's, official career, and added his personal testimony to Mr. Mackenzie's faithful and lengthy .services, Mr. E. H. Wilmot, SurveyorGeneral, and Mr. -F. T. O'Neill, the Assistant Under-Secretary, also spoke regarding his connection with the Department, _ and the services ho had rendered, whilst "Messrs. James M'Kerrow (ex-Surveyor-General), J. W. A. Marchant (ex-Surveyor-Genoral), Thomas Humphries (ox-Surveyor-General) added reminiscences of their past experiences of him.

Mr. Mackenzie then feelingly responded. and heartily thanked all the officers of the Department, including those absent as well as those present, for all tho_ kindnesses he had experienced at their hands, and the efficient and loyal assistance they had always rendered to him.

The proceedings closed with, three cheers heinpr f.iven for Mr. Maoltenzie. with musical honours.
