Excellent acceptances have .been received for the different events, and good racing should be the order of the day. The first event 'is the' Maiden Plate, six furlongs, weight for age. i Several of the Tunners are making their first apparance, and will be at a big disadvantage oorapared with those that have raced. '.The favourite may be Mr. T. H. Lowry's Bjorneborg, runner-up to Bimeter in the Oroua Stakes at Feilding. In tho race last mentioned, those that finished behind Bjoriieborg included Miacara,. a winner of open events at Wanga2!ni and Masterton,"and,..Postillion.
JTamrairoa in the ; Hack Hurdles- will doubtless have plenty of supporters.. At Feilding last week the Sensation gelding cave the field a big start over the first nalf-inile, but then w<m decisively. He is a born jumper, and should improve a good deal more thin the 10lb. he is penalised for his victory at Feilding.
Multiplication, the. lop weight in the Grandstand Handicap, seven furlongs, will have Deeley in the saddle, and as he is improving with every race he may be the most dangerous of the field. Mystified has a "lb. penalty., which' will bring her rather close to the top weight. The Eng-lish-bred Marcaris, 7st. 121b., is expected to do better than his previous form suggests. '
The Woodville Handicap, one mile aid a quarter; is the big event of the- day. This event wears an open appearance, but Square Deal, runner-up to Maniaroa in the St. Andrew's Handicap at Feilding, may carry most support. He will be ridden by E. Manson. Kooya showed a glimpse of form at 1 Feilding,; and is coming on, while.-Hik Eminence, has his victory over' Maniaroa at -Ashhurst to recommend him. Stepney was a dual winner at Blenheim, and is nicely, weighted with 7st. 91b. Immer, 7st., has not run up to her best form this season, but may do . so to-day, as she galloped very well before leaving Trentham; The Hastingstrained Alces, who is at the minimum, goes ten furlongs well. .
A very big field of ■ twenty-eight run-
Mrs is card-1 for the Flying Hack Handicap,.. six iurlongs, and most of tliein will go to tho post. Tavistock, who was very unlucky in his last couple of starts, may bo the favourite, but Martyross, who Is to be ridden by Emeruon, will also bo wall fancied. Tho Hastings-owned Trials and Ohiwni, winners at Ashhurst, are also amongst the field. Whichever draws the best number at the post of Martyrcss and Tavistock will no doubt be best liked. If he is reserved for tho Borough Handicap, seven furlongs, Jem would bo very hard to beat, but ho will probably start in tho big race run earlier'in the day. JJastor Achilles, who'defeated Miacnra nt Wangaaui in is nicely weightoA with only 81b. above the minimum.
A. Oliver will have the mount on The Summit in thw Hack Welter Handicap, one mile, and ths little toy horse may bo t?io choice of backers. Bunting, runnerup to His Eminence in file Ashhurst Cup, may'do a lot hotter to-day, as at Ashluurst lie. was all over the course, and should do better for a stronger horseman.
Tho day's racing will conclude with the Electric Handicap, five furlongs. Tyson will perhaps command most support, but Hymettius, 7st. 31b., is well in, and over his favourite distance should be seen to advantage. Tile bay horse won on the same course last season.
A private letter received from Melbourne states that so corfident'were the majority of people that Westcomrthad won the Melbourne Cup that some of the big bettors laid 10 to 1 on the Sydney three-year-old, while the public wero waiting for the numbers to be hoisted.
Private advices received from Hastings state that Mr. G. P. Donnelly, who has been seriously ill, is now almost convalescent.
Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for all events .including the Trial Hack Plate, at the Marton Summer Meeting bn January 1 and 3, 1916, close on Friday, December 10, at 9 p.m., with the secretary, Mr. A. Way, box 3, liarton. v
At Epsom on Saturday (says a Melbourne exchange) a spectator from New Zealand made himself conspicuous by remarking loudly and insultingly that Wyadra (who won) ran very differently to what lie did at Caulfield when Andesine beat him. The visitor was brought before the stipendiary stewards, who warned him to be' more circumspect in his lanon our rarecourses in future. The jumper, North East, was offered at auction in Melbourne last'month, but the best bid was 130 guineas, and his owner would not -.part with him at this figure. The Greenmeadows trajner, A. Neale, who was present with a team at the Takapuna Meeting, is remaining in. the north for the bix Christmas meeting at Ellerslie. ■ ■ »
