It is strongly rumoured that Cabinet Ministers have decided to reduce their own salaries by one-third, and to ask members of the House of Commons to submit to a similar reduction. The Right Hon. A. Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) speaking at Bristol, said that Ministers and members of the House of Commons should set an example in economy, and the sooner they began the better.
