FROM SYDNEY DIRECT.".' Shortly before 11 a.m. yesterday the Hud-dart-Parker steamer TJlimaroa. arrived in port from Sydney direct, 'and berthed at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 north. Included in the vessel's 1800 tons of cargo for Wei-; lington were transhipments ei the following steamersTatino \Maru, Mataram, Ouda, Empire, Eastern Mooltan, Rena, Wardoo, and Australia. The TJlimaroa averaged 14J knots an hour on the run across—a particularly smart performance. She will leave for Lyttelton at 5 p.m. today, returning here in time to take her departure for Sydney direct at 5 p.m. on Thursday. . WIMMERA'S RUNNING ALTERED. . The local office of Huddart-Parker, Ltd., has been advised that the Wimmera left Melbourne at 3 p.m. on Saturday for Wellington direct with 720 tone of cargo and a fair number of passejigers. She will bo dispatched on i Friday for southern ports and Melbourne, thus omitting the usual call at Hobart. Next trip the Wimmera will leave Melbouruo on December 24 and Hohart oil December 28 ■ for Wellington direct. She will arrive here on Sunday, January 2, ana -will leave on January 3 for southern ports and Melbourne.. Subsequently to this trip the Wimmera will omit calling at 'Hobart each way till further notice. CHRISTMAS RUNNING ALTERATIONS.' ■ In consequence of the approaching Christmas and New Year holidays, the Onion Company is making several alterations in connection with the intercolonial service.' The Moeraki is to leave Hobart on December 24, instead of December 25, and Sydney - on December 30 for New Zealand. The ■ Manuka will leave Wellington • for Lyttelton on December 21, instead of December 20. The MoKoia on her next trip will leave Melbourne on December 14, Hobart December 16, Bluff December 20, Dunedin December 21, and Lyttelton on December 22. arriving at Wellington on December 23. She will then act as an eitra ferry steamer between the two islands during the Christmas holidays, and will leave Lyttelton on December 27 and Wellington on December 28 at noon for Melbourne direct. THE INDIAN MONARCH'S CARGO. According to latest mail advices received from Sydney, the U.S. and A. Line's chartered ' steamer Indian Monarch, which was abandoned at sea off St. Helena recently. had on board over 8400. tons of general cargo for New Zealand and Australia. This consisted of numerous items, including pianos, motor-cars, clothing, paper, glassware, and tobacco. The value of this is U. r ° u ° hl J' ««timated at about £200.000. Of the-cargo in the. vessel's holds 1703 tons were for Sydney, 1087 tons for Melbourne, 611 tons for Brisbane, 1023 tons' for. Dunedin, 914 tons for Lyttelton, 1763 tons for Wellington, 1052 tons for Auckland, and 185 tons optional. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP.
