MISS BEERE'S RECITAL
The dance Tecitol which was presentod in the Grand Opera House last evening by Miss Estelle Beere, in aid of the wounded in the hospitals in Cairo, was one of tho most successful which she. has yet placod before a Wellington audience. From an artistic point of view, in regard to colouring, arrangement of groups, dresses, .and stage setting there was much that was charming to view, and added to that was the instinctive grace that is common to most young" children. The programme opened " with a ballet, entitled ''Childhood's Dream of Fairyland." The frocka worn by the fairies and butterflies were | very pretty, and added greatly to tlio colour scheme ,of the ballet. Following this little story, came a'Polka de la Rein® by a number of the children, and a Gavotte. Quite one of the : prettiest-of' the ballets was that of the butterflies, danced by about thirteen children. Afte* the interval a dance of the piccaninnies' was given by two quaiut little people, fol. lowing which came a ballet by elder pupils—the, "Danse des Sylphes," a reverie. Other performances were a dance, poem, a Russian Mazurka, and a number of other graceful individual items, oon. eluding with a quaint finale. During th# evening flowers and home-made sweets were sold, Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher having arranged for the sale of tho former ana Mrs. Hare for tho lattor. Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool was present, also Mrs. Herdinan, the Mayoress, and Miss Massey, and Mrs. W. Barton. Mr. Williams's orchestra supplied the danco : music. • ,
