THE BRITISH RETREAT IN MESOPOTAMIA .
PRESS COMMENT .COUNCIL OF WAR' AT CALAIS The Allies' reply to the Greek Note refusing the guarantees asked for with respect to our forces in the Balkans formulatus fresh proposals, the'nature of which has not been made public. The ' Greek Cabinet is now considering these, but suspicion is growing that Greece is not sincere, and that shifty tactics are afoot, and the Allies are urged to arrange a .demonstration nf force sufficiently impressive to convince both Greece and Rumania that the time for temporising is past, and that the time for action —one way or another —has arrived. The Italian Premier has delivered a s'lieeeh in the Chamber of Deputies which leaves no doubt on the poini that Italy is prepared to carry through her appointed task with vigorous energy. Tho Rumanian Government has commandeered- all the foreign vessels in her territorial waters, and the Rumanian Premier has declined to say why this step has been taken. The London Press is openly 'disappointed at tho latest development in Mesopotamia, and most of them insist that . adequate reinforcements should be sent in order to ensure an effective blow at Turco-German influence in the East. There has been a Council of War of the Franco-British Committees, meeting 1 at Calais. At the time of writing there is very little news from tho West, and none from tho Italian and Russian theatres. Henry Ford's Peace Ship—also termed the "Ship of Fools," and 'sThe Ark," has sailed, under somewhat ludicrous auspiccs. 1 \■. ■ 1
