Sergeant "Paddy" Ford, a returned Imperial soldier, was £jiven a magnificent welcome back to Lithgow (N.S.W.) last week. Sergeant Ford, who was in the uniform of the Gordon Highlanders was chairel by the local recruits and given a great reception along • the streets. Ho lihs been ten months in. Flanders, was "gassed" on four occasions, and is now recuperating. Ho was reported dead by the < authorities; and a tribute to his memory was pul> lished by the local paper, while his mother drew £172 insurance money. Ho brought with him a German helmet, rifle, and tyayonet, the former owner of which, he stated, has now no use for them. At night Sergeant Fortl was given a wallet of bank-notes and a gold ring by tho employees at the Small Arms Factory. "Paddy" says his one ambition is to see service with the Australian boys He was in the Boer War, and also saw service ia India.
