FIRE IN A SYDNEY HOTEL
TOP FLOOR GUTTED. By Telegraph—Press association—Copyright (Rec. December 5, 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, December o. ■A fire occurred in the Hotel Australia to-day. A large portion of the top floor and the tower were gut'teil, and the glass roof winter garden, w,is damaged, also setious damage was dono by water and smoke on the five lower floors. Of ninety guests, ' a number were spending Sunday in bed, and iheso made a hurried exit in their night clothes. v The brigades made a splendid save, as the Commercial Travellers' Club and other big buildings were threatened. • The cause of the fire and tho amount of tlio damage are unknown.
