The Legislative Council rejected tho Bill recently passed by the Assembly providing for adult suffrage at elections for the Council. HOTEL ADJUSTMENTS BILL. RESTRICTIONS AND PENALTIES. Adelaide, December i. The Assembly, in dealing with tho Hotel Adjustments Bill, fixed the penalty for a second offence of sly grogselling to a year's imprisonment, without the option of a fine. An amendment, prohibiting tho supplying of liquor to minors, was adopted. A proposal for a post-war referendum, on the basis of the 9.30 closing and compensation for licenses, was rejected. STATE HOTELS. NEW MOVE IN QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, December 4. The Government has definitely decided to embark on hotclkceping. Negotiations for the acquisition of several hotels are progressing. ITEMS IN BRIEF., PRICE OF BUTTER RAISED. Brisbane, December 4. A further increase in the price of buttei; to 1565. for first grade and 1465. Bd. for second grade, will be made from Monday. STOREMEN'S STRIKE ENDED. Melbourne, December 4. Tlio storemen and packers' strike has ended, the men agreeing to an increase of sixpence per day. STRIKE SETTLED. (Rec. December 5, 5.5 p.m.)' Sydney, December 5. Tlie strike at Garden 'Island has been settled.
