e___ ■ AN OFFICIAL RETURN. > Official returns issued on Saturday showed that the casualties to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force reported up to and including November 29 totalled 7836. Of these, 1116 officers and men were killed in action, 519 died of wounds, 240 died of disease, 658 were missing, 5272 were wounded, .and 22 were prisoners of war. The total death roll is thus 1884, exclusive of the missing. The details are as under
In the second table only gross totals are given, the actual totals in the first table being arrived at by deducting the previously reported wounded, missing, or now deceased. The second table is instructive, however, as showing that the Mounted Rifles and Infantry Brigades have borne the brunt of the lighting, their combined casualties numbering '7295 out of a gross total for the tvhoio force of 8180. The Mounted Brigade's total is 1905, and the Infantry Brigade's 5390. The Wellington Battalion also heads the list, with the bravo showing of 1494 casualties.
