TWO BATIALIONS WIPED OUT By Tclepraph—Preea Association—Copyright (Rec. December 5/ 5.5 p.m.) Rome, December 4. Details of how two battalions of Hungarian Honveds were wiped out in the Sabotin Pass show that the Italians at dawn noticed their approach, and prepared an ambuscade with machine-guns. The enemy was out off, and the machineguns killed 450 Hungarians in the space of thirty yards. The conflict was so bitter that Qf 1500 none escaped. FIRE IN GORIZIA. AUSTRIAN COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. December 5, 5.5 p.m.) Amsterdam, December 4. !Au Austrian commtiniquo says: "We annihilated ail enemy detachment at San Martino. • "The enemy's artillery caused a large fir© in tho centre of Gorizia, doing considerable damage." ATTACK ON MONTENERO. ENEMY REPULSED. ' ' (Ree. December 5, 11.30 p.m.) Rome, December 5. An Italian communique states: "After ; concentrated artillery preparation on the night of December 2, dense masses j of infantry- charged our trenches <it Moiitenero, and despito a murderous' lire, parties penetrated our lines in a few places, but. were driven out and fled, abandoning 500 dead."
