NOTES AND COMMENTS IBY Glencos.l The Hororata meeting will be held to-day while the Waipa Racing Club will also hold . its Annual gathering. Amongst the runners in the Bangor Handicap at Hororata to-day is Forest Belle, who is to be riden by-C. Emerson, In the company she is in, the 'Glenapp mare should show to advantage. In connection with the Stratford meeting to be held on January 1 and 3, owners aro reminded that entries for all events except the Borough Stakes, Farmers' Plate, and Cardiff Stakes, close with Secretary A. Coleman, at 9 p.m. on Monday next. ■ ' Secretary A. E. Whyte has been confined to his room during the last fewdays, but he expects to be well enough to attend at his office next week. f Rongora, who contested the Hack Hurdles on each day at Feilding, gave a promising display at her first attempt, and was doing well on Wednesday, when she came down at the last fence. The half-sister to Fashion Plate should be a greatly improved maro next time eh,o races.' Good acceptances have. been receive' for the Woodville meeting to bo held on Wednesday and Thursday next, and the gathering promises to be a most successful one. Special trains will leave Palmerston North each morning, and will return after the races. The Auckland horseman B. Deeley is once more at the bead of the list of winning jockeys. His successes ot the conclusion of the Feilding meeting totalled 22 for the season. The' steeplechaser Tim Doolan is remaining in Victoria for tho present, and hg will, after a short spell, oontest some of the steeplechases at the country meetings. Multiplex, the half-brother to Fort William, has been giving Trainer J. Ayres. trouble for solne time past, and it is more than likely that he will be, turned out for a lengthy spell. The race which Friar Marcus won at Newmarket (E.) recently was the first in which His Majesty's colours had been successful this season, and the result was received with loud and prolonged cheering. The event was the 'Great Eastern Railway Handicap, six furlongs, of the value of XGIS, and Friar Marcus won by a head from Wormleighton. There were 18 starters. Flingot, winner of the Cheltenham Hurdle Handicap at Feilding, w&s foaled in 1903, so that he iB now in his twelfth year. He commenced racing at three years, at which age he won once, and he has been a regular performer every season' since then. For some time -past his tocing has been confined to hurdle events, and, he has scored several successes in that department. An attempt was made last year to convert him into a steeplechaser, but he did not talce kindly to' the fences, and the idea was abandoned.
The well-known Victorian pony jockey Tbm M'Giath is credited with having ridden nearly 1000 winn.-rs since he commenced his career H years ago. This must surely be an Australasian record. H'Grath is now getting heavy, and he intends to apply' to the • V.R.C. for a license. If he is successful he will take on hurdle riding. J. Kilborn, who is one of the idols of the Melbourne crowd, was formerly a crack pony jockey, and as the Y.R.C. saw fit to whitewash him, probably the same treatment will be accorded M'Grath.
Among the world's most noted breeders of bloodstock who are going out of the business because of the war is the celebrated French sportsman. M. E. Blanc. His stud was to have been sold last month. The New Zealand jockey, E. Lowe, who has been riding with success in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane during the past 12 months, has been engaged to ride Mr. S. P. Mnckay's horses at the West Australian Ttiirf Club's meeting, which opens on Boxing Day. The-Victorian trainer, R. H. Frew, who regularly visits the Dominion about this time of the year, is coming over again, and will be present at the Auckland Cup meeting. Need (the winner of the Maiden Hack Scurry at Fcilding) was ridden by the Otaki apprentice, W. J. Bowden.
